Back Bay Mission Updates

Jerry Leggett, United Church of Christ minister and
singer-songwriter, visited Biloxi and Back Bay Mission March 10-12 as part
of a year-long peace mission that will take him across the country. While
with us, he interviewed staff, volunteers, and clients on Back Bay Mission
work sites, asking them if peace is possible and catching a glimpse of
Back Bay Mission’s ministry at work. Check out these videos:
It is estimated that Biloxi lost 20% of ALL structures in the
city. Surveys indicate that 33 percent of the estimated 171,000
dwellings in Mississippi's six most southern counties were destroyed.
Over one-fifth of all apartments, houses, condos, duplexes, trailers and
others types of homesteads sustained major damage.

Our Church's Support
A group of 16 youth and
adults completed a work trip to Back Bay Mission the first week in August,
where they helped paint houses and served at a soup kitchen. While there
they made many friends. We are saddened by the destruction caused by
Hurricane Katrina, especially in Biloxi, MS home of the Back Bay Mission.
