Trustees Ministry Bylaws
The Trustees Ministry shall consist of twelve members;
four of whom shall be elected annually to serve a term of three years.
The Trustees Ministry shall:
- Have the care and custody of the property of the church;
- Have charge of its financial affairs, always subject to the regulations prescribed by the laws of the state;
- Solicit budgets from each ministry and committee and prepare a total annual budget for presentation at the Annual Meeting;
- Recommend the Pastor(s) annual salary(s) considering the evaluations prepared as directed by the Moderator;
- Disburse funds in accordance with the budget approved by the church;
- Hire, or cause to be hired, bookkeeper, custodial and secretarial staff members;
- Hold meetings at least monthly, pass on all building operation and administrative expenses, monitor all other bills and pass on the payment of any bill that would cause the budget to be exceeded or pass on the payment of all such other bills whenever there are not sufficient funds to pay such bills;
- Appoint an auditor before the fiscal year-end (and at other times during the year at the Board's discretion) to examine the books, accounts and records of the Treasurer and make a report to the Board;
- Be responsible for the handling of the receipt of all moneys contributed to the church for its support, for benevolence, and for the deposit of such funds received in such depositories as selected by the Board;
- Be responsible for keeping accurate accounts for each subscriber and furnishing the subscribers with periodic statements of their accounts;
- Be responsible for the purchase, sale, lease, mortgage or other disposition of property off the church except that the Board can only purchase, sell, lease, mortgage or otherwise dispose of real property with the specific authority of the church as approved at a church business meeting;
- Authorize the check signers;
- Disburse undesignated bequests in accordance with Article VI;
- Maintain a Personal Policy Manual which specifies operational policies for the Pastor(s) and staff including (but not limited to) vacation, sabbatical and sick leave policies;
- Create and maintain a set of computer policies and a procedure manual to describe the intended use of the church computer and to ensure all the information is secure.
