Here are the details! Weekend with Rev. Tony Robinson - Listening Toward Discernment: On this up-coming Saturday and Sunday morning, 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon, the youth are encouraged to participate in Rev. Tony's presentations and discussions. In our exploration and efforts to appreciate both our past and our future, we need representatives from the different generations and decades. Please bring your young people and join us in these initial steps to celebrate our 175th anniversary and awaken to our purpose. Tower Hill Youth and Everyone Else End-of-the-Year Event: Wednesday is the last day to pre-register for the Tower Hill "Youth-&-Everyone-Else End-of-the-Year Event." You may still register after that date but at slightly higher rates ($15 [vs. $12] outside, $60 [vs. $53] inside). Contact Tom Farthing at tom@farthing.us. More than 20 people are registered so far. Any youth who would like to come but whose parents/guardians cannot come with them are still encouraged to join us...with permission, of course. We will arrange for transportation and work with you to get a room or a tent. You may bring a friend or maybe join another family. Please work with us if you would like to go!!! The more the merrier! If space permits--> {Tom F., Becca C. and Holly T. are working to put together a weekend that can be what you need it to be: Relaxing, re-centering, community building, family-oriented, active and outdoorsy, and/or a time for connecting with God. We will have outdoor and indoor games, church-retreat activities for individuals, pairs or small groups of a peaceful/low-key nature, campfire songs and conversation topics, and a short Sunday worship service (possibly Taize) available. All of these activities will be optional.} Swimming, Campfires, S’mores, Singing, Conversation, Games, Jigsaw Puzzles... Summer Mission/Work Trip: If you and/or your youth are still interested in going on the Summer Mission/Work Trip to Asheville, TN, please contact Tom Farthing about whether or not you can be added to the group--it is possible. A deposit of $75 will be due immediately. (Total cost is $250 plus $50 sponsorship which needs to be paid in full by June 1). Ages Jr. High and up are welcome. We will join our neighbors in the Wesley United Methodist Church Youth Program and work with the ReCreation Experiences program. Please see the www.loveandjustice.org youth page for more information about the actual trip. This could be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about another culture in our country and to strengthen our own youth community during our time of transition. There will be a meeting at Wesley United Methodist Church at Noon on Sunday, May 18th for the participants in this year's mission/work trip to Asheville, NC. Please let Tom Farthing or Holly Teitsma know if you can not attend. Those of us in Jr. High Church School will just go to the meeting as a group when we're finished. UCC National Youth Event (http://www.ucc.org/youth): In a few months, the United Church of Christ National Youth Event, held only every four years, will provide an opportunity for over 3000 high school youth to gather for worship, workshops, faith, fun and fellowship. It will take place at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville from July 24th to 28th. Christopher Grundy will be one of the musicians this year and Eboo Patel will be one of the presenters. You may have seen Mr. Patel on the Compassion Forum on CNN last night, or have read the following article of his at http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/eboo_patel/2008/04/among_the_evangelicals.html. We would like to help send our high schoolers and adult participants. Diane Herr has volunteered to lead the trip. We can join other UCC youth groups in the area who will take a motor coach bus. As well, if there are youth who would like to go on the work trip and to the NYE, there will be transportation from one to the other. The cost is $345 for registration before 4/31 and $365 afterwards. Please contact Holly at hmtpsych@mac.com or 630.779.0641 a.s.a.p. if you are interested in sending your youth and/or in going yourself to this timely UCC event. |
