Worship Notes

Our worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.  Child care is provided.  You will find our worship style to be informal and uplifting.  Lay people participate as worship leaders.  Youth participate in the first half of the service after which pre-school through 5th grade youth attend Christian education classes.

We typically follow the Common Lectionary, a plan of using scriptures over a three year cycle.  Our bible of choice is the New Revised Standard Version.

We sing hymns and songs from two hymnals, The Pilgrim Hymnal and The New Century Hymnal, as well as various other sources.

We welcome people to use whatever language they are most comfortable with:  inclusive, balanced or traditional.  Most of the common readings in the service are written in inclusive language.

The first Sunday of the month is youth Sunday.  This is the time when we like to have the youth be the worship leaders.  An Open communion is also held the first Sunday of every month.

Our worship services are filled with music of various types.  Many in our church community have been blessed with musical talents and share these gifts by singing or playing instruments.  There are choirs for all ages in addition to chime ringers. The 100 year old Austin pipe organ has been in continuous use since the building of the sanctuary.

Our worship services are recorded so that people who miss a service or are shut-ins can hear them at a later time.

Drama, skits and liturgical dance are occasionally part of our service. (Christmas Pageant below!)

In addition, we have special worship services throughout the year.  Some examples are:  "Justice & Peace", All Saints Day/Tottenfest, Confirmation, Graduation, First Communion, etc.
